Promoting a Culture of Reading at the Heart of Industry

About the Library

The Sazvar Sazeh Azarestan Library, located at the company’s factory in the Shamsabad Industrial Zone of Tehran, began its activities in 2014. This library was established as one of the company’s most prominent cultural projects, in cooperation with the “Read with Me” program of the Institute for Research on the History of Children’s Literature, with the goal of promoting reading among workers’ families.

The aim of this initiative is to create a meaningful connection between the workplace and family life through books and reading. Every week, workers borrow selected, high-quality books for their children, read them aloud at home, and then return them to receive a new set. Over the years, this simple and human-centered cycle has strengthened families’ interest in reading and enriched the bond between parents and children.

🌱Family Education and Empowerment

Since the beginning of the program in autumn 2014, a series of educational workshops have been held for parents. In these workshops, specialists from the Read with Me program introduced families to techniques of read-aloud, reading with infants and toddlers, and creative literacy education through literature.

This program continues with the full support of the Cultural Management of the Azarestan Group—especially Ms. Parvin Amini—and in collaboration with Ms. Elahe Siavoshian, a specialist from Read with Me.

The library’s trained librarian, Ms. Sahar Ghiasi, is available every day to guide and assist members and parents

📚Library Members and Resources

In 2015, with the financial support of Sazvar Sazeh Azarestan, an independent library was established and equipped at the company’s factory. The library began its operations with 600 titles and 3,000 volumes, and gradually expanded as it received strong interest from employees and their families.

Today, the Sazvar Sazeh Azarestan Library—with more than 5,240 volumes across 3,452 titles and 867 active members—is recognized as one of the successful examples of promoting reading culture in industrial environments.

The library’s collection includes high-quality books for children and young adults, classic and contemporary literature, educational books, and a wide range of works on psychology, history, parenting, and general topics for adults.

🎓 Educational Activity Areas

In addition to lending books, the Sazvar Sazeh Azarestan Library is also active in the following educational fields:

  • Creative writing workshops for children and teenagers

  • English language classes for younger age groups

  • Phonological awareness training and auditory skill development for mothers and young children

  • Reading and cultural competitions, such as “Which Book Did I Like the Most?” and the environmental contest “We Produce Less Waste!”

  • Celebrations and art-based activities centered around books, held at the factory

🏠Partner Libraries and Ongoing Activities

The central Azarestan Library collaborates with several local home-based libraries (run by employees in their homes) as well as school libraries attended by the children of staff. Monthly performance reports are collected from all these partner libraries.

To further promote a culture of reading among employees, diverse and educational content is published daily on the Telegram platform. In addition, book introductions are being produced using graphic design tools such as Photoshop to create more visually engaging content.

Alongside these efforts, the library at the Azarestan Omran Warehouse remains active, and the book-lending process continues in various factory departments, including production lines.

In October of this year, ۲۱۰ books were borrowed, ۹۳ families participated, and ۴ new members joined the library. Continuous communication is also maintained with personnel to ensure the timely return of borrowed books.

Book lending data is recorded on a daily, monthly, and annual basis, and archived at the end of each month in Excel format. Recently, ۵۷ new story and poetry books for children aged ۳ to 9 have also been added to the library’s collection.

📖Books: A Bridge Between Industry and Culture

Today, the Sazvar Sazeh Azarestan Library is more than just a cultural space; it has become a bridge connecting industry and culture. It is a place where work, education, and family come together with meaning, and where reading has become a natural part of the everyday life of the Azarestan family.
